Prison Ministry

1. PRISON MINISTRY

  • Cananore community have regular visit to the jail. They have mass on every Sunday in the Jail. They pray with them, interact with them and also provide counseling to the needy.
  • Sisters with Vincent De Paul members and the Parish Priest visits Vadakara Sub jail regularly. Christmas message was given, Carols were sung and cakes were distributed. It was a touching experience

Donation of books to sub jail library: The NSS volunteers OF Providence Women’s College visited Calicut subjail with the mission of changing the mind set up of prisoners by donating books. Through reading the prisoner could develop positive attitudes towards the society. In addition to that Anti-drug awareness class was arranged. Also made arrangement for waste disposal and awareness class on waste management

2. Ministry for the Aged

Santhimandiram provides shelter for 26 women and 17 poor girls. The old women are well cared for with all the facilities. The girls staying in the children’s home are cared for their all round development with various opportunities. In January they had an outing to Calicut which they enjoyed to the maximum.

3. Providence Fashion Design and Garment Making Institute:

There are 45 students undergoing the training at present. The course is now in high demand as they get placement soon after their studies. All the students who passed out are employed.

4. MOTHER VERONICA HOUSING PROJECT

  • St. Teresa’s, Kannur started to Construct 2 Houses. One House will be completed by the first week of April 2017. They collected from convent  and institutions  Rs. 16,54,953/-
  • Construction of ‘Sneha Bhavan’ in Mary Nilayam: From the mite box collection and the ‘food fest’ conducted They saved Rs.1,25,000/- lakhs. ‘Sneha Bhavan’ is for Mrs. Premalatha, our ministerial staff and is being built with the whole hearted support of the parents, students, and the staff. The key of it was given on 5th January in 2017 in a public function. It is indeed marvellous that 50,000 coupons were sold and the income derived from it is Rs.6,00,000/- towards the 9 lakhs estimated amount for the house.
  • Providence convent and schools completed one House costing Rs 6,00,000/- Out of this 1,00,000/- was given by the convent and Rs. 85,000/- was given for the renovation of another house and Rs. 30,000/- was given for the marriage purposes.
  • Madonna Convent Kasaragod completed one house.
  • In Fatimagiri the Mother Veronina housing project is in progress. One of their Catholic teachers and a worker will have their houses completed by 2018.

5. AWARDS RECEIVED

  • Fatimagiri HSS received Mazhavil Puraskaram. They received Rs.5000 cheque as a cash award
  • Mr. Joby, the coach Mother Veronica Special school received gold medal and Master Muhamed Sinan, received silver medal for Asia Cup unified Cricket Tourment at Dhaka, Bangladesh in November 2016.
  • Providence College received State award for the Best NSS unit
  • Smt. Julie the NSS Coordinator of Providence College received State award for the Best NSS Coordinator
