The Provincial Superior and team of Southern Province of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation was wanting to open a house in a poor catholic area as most of our houses were along the coastal areas of Malabar. Our congregation was specifically started for English education of girls in these areas.
The dream of having a convent in a poor area was materialized when the Archbishop of Verapoly Dr. Daniel Acharuparambil, invited us to open a house in Valappu. The then parish priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church Fr. Martin Pallath informed the Bishop that a house belonging to Mr. V.J. Paul was available to start the convent as Mr. Paul desired to sell it. This house was very close to the parish and convenient for the sisters for spiritual needs and for parish work.
As soon as the information regarding the availability of the land and house for the convent, the Provincial Sr. Rosy Joseph and her team went to meet the Bishop and also to see the house . Negotiations were carried on quickly and the sisters of the southern province decided to buy up the plot even though the cost was too high. The house was modified to make it a convent.
The bishop suggested to start a nursery class and tuition centre for the higher classes in the parish itself, which would help to maintain the sisters.
On the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, the convent was inaugurated by our dear Archbishop, Dr. Daniel Acharuparambil on 27th April 1999. The provincial superior received the bishop at the gate with a bouquet. The public meeting was presided over by Prof. K.V. Thomas MLA. The Parish priest, the Panchayat President and the Provincial Superior offered felicitations.
The main work of the sisters was parish work and family apostolate.
The nursery school conducted in the parish was not a success as the number of students was becoming less and had to give it up in 2001. After 6 months the sisters visited the houses and 75 students turned up for admission to the nursery. Thus on 3rd January 2002 the Carmel Nursery School was inaugurated in our convent building. In 2003 the strength of the school was 171. In 2003 to 2007. On 31st May 2003 was the blessing of the new school building. Vicar General Fr. Sebastian Louis was the chief guest for the day. In 2007 to 2010 Sr. Annie David was appointed as the superior and H.M. on 11th February 2009 the foundation stone was laid for the new High school building.
On 27th may 2010 the new High School was inaugurated by the auxiliary bishop Joseph Karikkassery. We continue to toil towards the transformation of society through the apostolate of education , and other activities in the parish.
