L S N, L P SCHOOL, OTTAPALAM – (1938)
To raise the girl child with value-oriented education, instilling in her loyalty to the values she has imbibed. She will be spiritually oriented, intellectually informed, physically fit, emotionally balanced, and socially aware.
The mission is to educate the girls of the locality, giving importance to the poor and weaker sections, irrespective of caste, creed, and religion.
Ottapalam, located in the Palakkad District of Kerala, is a calm and beautiful place with a rich history as the ancestral home of several leading statesmen in the early decades of the 20th century. One such figure was Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair, a pioneer among the great builders of New India, who firmly believed in the equality of women. To perpetuate the memory of his wife, Late Lady Sankaran Nair, he laid the foundation for a girls’ school in Ottapalam with the permission of the Malabar District Board. However, the District Board was unable to sustain the school, leading to the closure of the Lady Sankaran Nair (LSN) Board High School in 1938.
At this crucial juncture, Calicut Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Perserpio S.J. and the President of the Malabar District Board invited the Apostolic Carmel Sisters to take over the management of the school, with the condition that the name ‘Lady Sankaran Nair High School’ be retained.
The purpose of establishing LSN LP School is to provide education to girls, integrating value inputs into their learning. The history of the school is closely intertwined with the development of Ottapalam itself. Without this institution, many women in the area might have remained uneducated or illiterate. LSN LP School stands as a beacon of hope for poor girls seeking basic education.
As a Malayalam medium Lower Primary School, LSN LP School is a prestigious institution in Ottapalam. Our students excel in both curricular and co-curricular activities, growing up in an environment of discipline and moral values.
The Apostolic Carmel Sisters took over the management of the school on June 18, 1938, starting in a dilapidated shed. The task of reviving the school was challenging, but through God’s grace and the hard work of the sisters, LSN School gained a reputation for excellence. A significant milestone occurred in 1942 when Miss D. Souza, the Board Inspector, requested Mother Josephine (Superior General) to open a Secondary Training School with Malayalam as the medium of instruction, with Sr. Eanswide A.C. assigned to lead it. In 1951, the Lower Primary Section was separated from the High School and joined the Training School as its feeder school.
In addition to academics, co-curricular activities are emphasized, and L.P. students consistently perform exceptionally well in youth festivals and competitions. By the grace of Almighty God, we aspire to fulfill the designs laid out for LSN School.
